Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry – Grace Church Youth Ministry offers Middle and High School Youth engagements with spiritual reflection, communal bonding, and creative fun with the love of Jesus as the foundation. Monthly youth group meetings, community service opportunities, and occasional travel are a few examples of how we spend our time together, and in the world! Due to the pandemic, we are in a revitalization process. If you are interested in learning more or have an interest in volunteering, please contact V.J. Whitehurst Jr.

Youth Ministry is a ministry that fosters faith formation of Middle and High School Youth and seeks to support Youth in their relationships with themselves, with other people, and with God. Youth Ministry is a ministry in which young people are empowered to intentionally contemplate and engage with their faith and love of Jesus. Our vision is a Youth ministry where pre-teens and teens:

  • feel comfortable raising questions and thinking critically about faith
  • connect with one another and the wider community
  • explore what it means to follow Christ and grow in their relationship with God

Youth Ministry Overview:

Youth Ministry aims to engage with what is authentic and present for young people. The voices of all Youth are empowered to share their life experiences through scriptural, spiritual,  and communal lenses. In doing so, their faith formation becomes their own to harness and shape in Jesus’ name. This is achieved by regularly scheduled Sunday youth group meetings, annual-communal events, confirmation classes, and fun trips!

Short-Term Mission & Immersion Trips:

Jesus sent his followers into the world with instructions to proclaim the good news of God’s love to and for all of creation.  Grace Youth share that message with others through word and action both in the church community and outside of it.  Two prime experiences that empower teens to do just that are Grace Youth Mission and Immersion Trips.  An Immersion Trip is a short-term experience serving others and finding God in places beyond the DC metro area. Middle School Youth have gone on Immersion Trips to New York and Philadelphia. High School Youth participate in a Mission Trip, which builds on the experiences begun in Immersion Trips. Mission Trips tend to be a week-long experience of seeking and serving God and others.

All Youth and their friends are welcome to participate in Youth Group, Fun Outings, Immersion Trips, and Mission Trips.  You don’t have to be a “member” of Grace Church to join the fun.  You just have to be in either Middle School (Grades 6-8) or High School (Grades 9-12) to participate.

Youth Ministry Volunteer Opportunity:

Youth Ministry is also an opportunity for older young adults, adults, and seniors to engage in the faith and communal development of our Youth at Grace! If you are interested in learning more please contact V.J. Whitehurst Jr.
