Worship Ministry

To learn more about ministries, contact the Church Office.

Acolytes

Acolytes serve during regular Sunday worship and on other occasions throughout the liturgical year. Grace acolytes participate in the annual Acolyte Festival at the Washington National Cathedral.

Altar Guild

Members of the Altar Guild provide and care for the appointments of the sanctuary and the vessels of the altar, and make preparations for all services of the church.

Counters

Five teams of 2 or 3 parishioners work as counters. These teams are responsible for counting the offering each Sunday and on certain special occasions.

Lectors

Lectors, adults and youth, assist during worship services by reading the appointed scripture lessons.

Liturgical Lay Eucharistic Ministers

LLEMS are persons licensed by the Bishop to administer the chalice during the services of Holy Eucharist. They also read the Prayers of the People.

Pastoral Visiting Lay Eucharistic Ministers (PVLEM)

Grace church is blessed to have a number of ministers who are the bridge between our liturgical life and the pastoral care of the parish. These folk are licensed by the diocese after undergoing thorough training in the ministry of visitation to the sick and homebound. They make it possible for the homebound and ill of the parish to remain part of the life of the church through the sharing of conversation, prayer, communion (Holy Eucharist) wherever they may be: home, nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation center. Because we all bring different and rich gifts to the community, the parish is also enriched through the connections that are born of these visits. PVLEM are an integral link in the chain of pastoral care in the parish. Their faithful reporting back to the clergy make possible a strong network with our parishioners who are unable to be physically present in the life of the church.

Sound and Tape Ministry

This ministry provides sound amplification at worship services, concerts, and special events held at the church. Audio tape recordings are usually made, with copies being sent to parish shut-ins. Copies are available by request to parishioners and visitors for a modest donation.

Ushers

Ushers welcome newcomers, greet parishioners, facilitate seating, gather the offering, and offer assistance where needed. The Ushers currently need people to serve two times per year.

Worship Committee

This committee consists of clergy, staff, and lay volunteers who work together to help enhance through liturgy, music, special activities, and the physical surroundings the message revealed through the appointed scripture for each liturgical season. Please contact Janice Robinson at 301.585.3515.
