Grace At A Glace Birthday Blessings
4/27 - Joseph Gnahoui-David Accessible Grace Mission Statement We at Grace Church are called to be good stewards of the real estate with which God has blessed us. Our primary goal is to make our worship, meeting, and fellowship spaces welcoming to people of all physical abilities. Our secondary goal is to improve our buildings in the areas of safety, usefulness, and aesthetics, all for the glory of God. Parish Life Security Notices: Parishioners and visitors are advised to bring their valuables with them when coming to the altar for communion. Celebrate the Church's Birthday! Sunday, May 11th is Pentecost Sunday, the day on which we celebrate the Church’s birthday. In observance of this day, we celebrate by having a birthday cake for each month of the year. Please call Tamela if you would like to bring a cake. There will be plenty of sweets for all! Christian Formation Adult Forum: Beginning Sunday May 4th and continuing each Sunday in May, there will be a series in celebration and support of our Senior Community and any one that supports our Senior Community. On May 4th, Mary Ann Buckley, Director of Episcopal Senior Ministry (ESM) Cares will present various services offered by the ESM. There will be lots of helpful information shared in this series on Aging, so be sure to mark your calendars! Teachers and Youth Leaders Needed: Some our very dedicated Sunday school teachers and Youth Leaders are taking a rest next year. As a result, we are asking for volunteers to step up to fill the void that their departures will create. Please see Rev. Eric or Sue Bilek if you are interested in serving in this important ministry of Grace Church. Bible Study: Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Grace House. Worship & Music Choir Rehearsal Schedule:
Holy Baptism Schedule for the Balance of 2008: Pentecost, May 11; Bishop’s Visitation, June 1; and All Saints’ Sunday, November 2. Please contact the Parish Office to schedule Holy Baptism for you or your child. Music of Grace: Music of Grace presents the final Anniversary Concert celebrating 25 years of our concert series. Our Grace choirs will present this concert titled, "Magnificat--Mary's song of praise." Works to be performed are two concerted settings of the Magnificat, the first by Vivaldi and the second by Pergolesi, as well as the setting in C-Major by Charles Villiers Stanford. Other choral works will be presented as well. The concert is Sunday, May 18 at 5:00 p.m. and it is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us for this very special event! Social Ministry Ascension Day Eucharist and Picnic! Come out and join us at the Ascension Day Eucharist and Picnic, Thursday May 1st at 5:30 p.m. It will be Potluck gathering on The Grace House Lawn… Please bring a dish to share, drinks will be provided. There will be kite flying, bubbles and lots of family fun! Josephy & His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! If you’re planning on joining the Strolling Seniors on their outing to Toby’s Dinner Theater, please contact Marjorie Johnson As Soon As Possible ay 301.681.7952. Five Great Reasons to Join Grace Church's Homeless Ministry: (1) It’s fun making 300+ sandwiches; (2) It’s a great way to serve others in the community; (3) You can catch up with or meet a lot of nifty people; (4) Your time commitment is predictable and bounded; and (5) You can get out of something you didn’t want to do at home! On the first Saturday of each month, the Ministry gathers at 1:00 p.m. in the Church undercroft to make sandwiches. At about 2:00 p.m., a group of six or more leaves in the church van to distribute the sandwiches in downtown D.C. They return to the church by 5:30 p.m. In 2008, we have divided into teams, to provide for more predictable resources. We are shooting for at least eight people per team. Will you join the Red, Blue, or Green Team? Joining a team means that you will come to make sandwiches and be available to join the group going downtown in the van to distribute them on your team’s day. If you can’t make it, you will try to switch with someone on another team. Of course, everyone is welcome to come make sandwiches and go out to distribute on any Homeless Ministry Saturday. Following is the schedule along with each team leader. To join a team, email Erik Olson at erikdavidolson@hotmail.com
Every Day is Earth Day at the Pennyworth Shop! The first Earth Day, April 22, 1970 sparked the modern environmental movement. At Grace, we have a 55 year old environmental ministry in the form of our Pennyworth Shop! Thrift shops provide a great opportunity for recycling and reusing. Celebrate Earth Day by a visit to The Pennyworth Shop. In addition to our regular hours (Tuesday through Sunday 10:00 to 4:00 p.m.), the shop will be open Sunday, April 27th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The youth of Grace Episcopal Church will help staff the shop and proceeds from these special hours will help fund their pilgrimage next summer. Take Me Out to the Ball Game! We are looking to form a co-ed, cross-generational team! If anyone is interested in playing, please call Tamela! I’m sure we’re going to have a really good time! Dining with Grace at the Movies: Come join us for fellowship and our last film of this year on Friday, May 2nd. We will resume in the fall. Potluck dinner begins at 6:30 p.m and we begin the movie at approximately 7:15 p.m. Our movie is Into the Arms of Strangers, Stories of the Kindertransport. This is an inspiring film of how the lives of children were saved from the Holocaust because they were sent by their parents to live with foster families in England for the duration of the war.
