The Christian Formation Ministry of Grace Episcopal Church
Presents For You:
The Face of God:
Adult Christian Formation Opportunities
May/June - 2002
Our theme for the remainder of this program year is Dispute resolution in Christian Context: How do we find the face of God
within our conflicted situations, from the tensions we experience within ("If I'm afraid, does that mean I don't have enough
faith?") to Mediation (How can we work together to resolve the differences that face us in the workplace?) to Litigation ("Is
that even a Christian response to our conflicts, and if so, how? What approaches on the part of the parties involved could
make this system reflect a belief in God as judge, us as God's agents and where does revenge/vengeance come into play?")
YAC members are always welcome at these events. Join us, your presence will enrich our gathering!
May 19 - Mediation: Resolving Disputes Cooperatively
Parishioner Susan Crawford is Program Director for ADA Mediation, a nation-wide mediation program funded by the U. S. Department
of Justice. With increasing frequency, courts, administrative agencies, communities, employers, and schools have turned to a
non-adversarial model of dispute resolution: mediation. In Mediation, an impartial person assists individuals to discuss and
resolve their disputes. Mediation is founded on principles of mutual respect, cooperation, collaboration, and empowerment of
the parties to make their own decisions. How does it happen? Does it really work?
May 26 - Litigation
Parishioners and lawyers Betsy and Jack Geise will help us to consider the place of both civil and criminal litigation as
mechanisms for dispute resolution within the context of our lives of faith.
June 2 - Internal conflict resolution
Psychologist Katherine Smith explores several ways of understanding internal conflict from a psychological perspective,
pathways for resolution, and as time allows, an experiential process for one way to move towards resolution of an internal
conflict.
