Adult Formation
The mission of Adult Formation is to lead adults into a deeper appreciation of and more faithful living of our Baptismal Covenant. Becoming more effective disciples of and witnesses for Jesus Christ will enable our building up the Body of Christ here at Grace.
This year we celebrate "Koinonia at Grace A community called together by the Holy Spirit". A series of offerings throughout the program year designed by our Interim Rector, the Rev. Bruce McPherson, to assist our community along the transitional path towards a new Rector for our parish. Also, we will offer opportunities to strengthen and grow our work as a community of people that we hope will help us take a look at how we define ourselves as a faith community. We continue the journey to look into how we live within community on a personal, parish, diocesan, national and global personal level.
The Adult Formation Ministry at Grace
Adult Christian Formation at Grace begins with a corporate response to God’s love for each of us. Flowing from communal worship there are ample opportunities for each member and friend of the parish to enter personally into Christian Formation. It is the parish that provides the primary resources that equip its members in formation for ministry. In formation, resources most often take the shape of workshops, lectures, study groups, dialogues, and both large and small group training.
First and foremost is the Eucharist. At every service, the word of God is read, proclaimed. At this parish church the Holy Eucharist is celebrated every Sunday and Wednesday.
Beyond corporate worship, there are a number of classes or learning experiences for the adult who wishes to place himself/herself into formation scheduled thoughout the lutergical seasons of the Church year; Advent, Christmas, Epihany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.

Bible Study at Grace

Bible Study classes offer enhanced learning of Scripture, providing a chance to understand it in the time it was written, and see how it is applicable to our everyday living.
We offer two Bible Study classes to the parish community; Sunday mornings starting at 9:15 a.m. and Wednesday mornings starting at 10:00 a.m. The Sunday classes are based on the Lections for the day and the Wednesday classes will be using the Kergyma series to look at different writers, books or themes found in the Hebrew or New Testament.
Lenten Season 2010
The Life of the Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman
During the Lenten season this year will take a look at the life of the Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman and his most influential work: Jesus and the Disinherited. The Lenten study this year will focus on the life and work of Howard Thurman, arguably the most important theologian of the civil rights period in America. Dr. Thurman was Dean of Theology and of the chapels at Howard University (1932-1944) and Boston University (1963 – 1965). Between those years he founded The Church of the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco which, from its beginning, was an intentionally interracial church. Please join us every Wednesday evening in Lent to learn more about this towering figure and to talk about his work.
Foundations of Faith - 2010 Confirmation Classes
During the winter, Grace will offer classes to anyone interested in; joining the Episcopal Church, learning more about the Episcopal Church, or simply wanting to learn more about the practices of faith, is invited to participate in “foundations of Faith,” a course of study lasting 8 weeks. The instructor will be our Interim Rector, the Rev. Bruce McPherson and completion will lead to Confirmation, Reception or Reaffirmation of faith at the Washington National Cathedral in May 2010. If you are interested in signing up for this course, please contact the church office at (301) 585-3515.
